October 5, 2026
The last month has been mostly made of trains, planes and hotel rooms. Looking back at the list, it is longer than I expected when I started.
- Cannes, for the Yachting Festival, with Naitiva.
- Lecco, for a meeting with Lario Innovation Network, a network of young people from that area who are doing promising work.
- Milan and London, for the Liquid Factory road show.
- Genoa, for the Salone Nautico, where we announced Naitiva.
I have lived abroad and travelled for work before, but in more than twenty years of career I had never had a stretch this intense, spread across so many different areas.
On paper this is a tiring schedule. Travel eats hours, sleep gets irregular, and the usual routine of work, writing and side projects mostly stops. I expected to arrive at the end of it empty, but it has been one of the most stimulating periods I can remember.
Different rooms, different questions
Each of these places had a different audience and asked different things. A boat show is about people who build, sell and use boats, and the yachting market is so far from software: some companies live on two yachts built each year. A meeting with a local innovation network is about what young founders and developers are building and what they are missing to start thinking globally. A road show in two large cities is about how a company and its product are read by people who do not know it yet.
What I take from it
I am not going to draw large conclusions. A few smaller ones:
- Being physically present still produces things that calls and messages do not.
- Explaining your work to people outside your own field is a useful test of whether you understand it.
- Tiredness and energy are less correlated than I assumed. A full calendar of interesting conversations is tiring in a way that does not feel like a drain.
The schedule is going to calm down, and I will go back to a more regular routine, at least for a while :)
